Edis Barrios' Blog Post 1 Group one presented intercultural communications. Prior to this presentation the phrase "intercultural communications" was very foreign to me. I learned how people with the same backgrounds tend to choose living near each other. Living in hialeah my whole life, I can see how this is true. Hialeah is filled with Cubans and it's commonly referred to as "mini Cuba" amongst the people living here. The cuban culture is reflected from the restaurants around here to the clothes people wear. Although I am Honduran and not Cuban and how there's differences in cultures, I do see that I would rather live in a place where mostly Hispanic and Latino reside because of how "at home" these places makes me feel. I've traveled a lot throughout the US and living in a place where mostly hispanics reside isn't only about me, it's also about my parents. They came from Honduras to a country where they had no prior knowledge ...

Lia's Reflection Professor sherri sinkoff 03/15/2024 SPC1017 In this blog post I will be sharing my personal opinion about our first project as a class and how I felt about the three different presentations. First, Group 3 presentation was about Healthy eating. This is a topic that I know very well about, but struggle with, as a Hispanic most of our food isn't really considered healthy. I have just started my journey of detoxing my body for my own good. I struggle with juvenile acne, and I went to see some specialists about it. They gave me the best piece of information I could ever receive, He said "Acne reacts with what your body is eating." I learned that in order to get rid of this back acne I have to cleanse myself from inside to out. I'm not much of a fruit person as I was never taught to eat them, and I've just recently learned to eat vegetables, I now have been eating vegetables regularly for at least 2 meals of the day. I have also started to detox w...

Lia's Reflection Professor sherri sinkoff 03/10/2024 SPC1017 In this blog post I will be sharing my personal opinion about our first project as a class and how I felt about the three different presentations. The first group to present was group 1, They presented intercultural communications, I had never really learned about this topic, and it was very enlightening to see. It was crazy to see how people from the same ethnicity choose to live near each other. As an immigrant myself I didn't know this information. I have lived in the United States for almost 8 years now and have never met another Bolivian in Miami. I do love Miami, it's a very populated city, and a lot of citizens complain because of the cubans, but I think cubans are what make Miami MIAMI. I had this discussion with my parents about whether or not we should move, but I don't see myself living anywhere else, I'm a people person and a family girl, I'm all about bonds and helping the community other...

Joslyn Cruz Professor Sherri Sinkoff SPC1017 03/11/24 Group one choose the topic, Paying it forward. They spoke about the impact of leadership and others. Paying it forward was explained by group one. They showed us how an act of kindness can change someones life and even your own. I try to do an act of kindness everyday. For example, I'll make sandwiches for the homeless people that live in my area. I remember around winter time last year, there was a homeless man in a wheelchair at the corner of my apartment building. I saw him and went inside my house and I gave him a hot coffee, a warm sandwich, chips, and couple of bottles of water. I also gave him a blanket with a small pillow i had in my house. After that moment I felt so much better having and being given the opportunity to help someone in need can make you feel good about yourself and it can make you feel like you've made a change to someones life. Group three choose the topic good eating. I really enjoyed their pr...

Edis Barrios' Blog Post Group ones topic was on Paying It Forward. They were tasked with chapters 1,2,6,7 and 8. Before this presentation I hadn't fully grasped the idea of what paying it forward might mean. The group did an amazing job in explaining what paying it forward means and how beneficial it can be to yourself and others. Paying it forward means doing something nice for someone else and not expecting anything in return. Being nice to be a good person. One thing that came to mind was how, it's free to be nice; it doesn't cost you anything so why not be nice! They mentioned how paying it forward creates a domino effect where someone does something nice for a person and that person does something nice for the next person and so on. I thought was really interesting. The interview was probably my favorite part about this presentation. The interview was absolutely touching and influenced me to be a nicer person; you can never be too nice. "We are all helpers to...

Jade Graham SPC1017 Professor: Sinkoff 3/7/2024 Group three ’s presentation was on Good Eating. The group started off with presenting their study guide and brochure. The Study guide was based on chapters 11, 13-part 1, 13 part 2, Chapter 14, Chapter 4 and Chapter 12 . The brochure discussed “ R eminders for Y our H ealth ” . A few things I have learned from Group three’s Brochure is that to be healthy you should limit your intake of processed foods, sugary drinks, an excessive amount of caffeine, stay hydrated, drink an adequate amount of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. C onsider incorporating herbal teas and infused water for added flavor and health benefits. R egular exercise, engage in regular physical activity, combining cardiovascular exercises, strength training, and flexibility exercises. I also learned that physical health is just as important as mental health and that you should seek counseling if needed. B eing in na...
